Mix Fold 3 – A Galaxy Z Fold 5 Competitor To Release Only in China

Xiaomi has confirmed that it will launch the Mix Fold 3 in August 2023, according to a Weibo post by Lu Weibing, the company’s global president. Weibing made the announcement while unveiling Xiaomi’s new smart manufacturing digital intelligence system 2.0, which will be used in the production of the Mix Fold 3 at the Beijing Yizhuang smart factory.

The upgraded manufacturing system is praised to be more intelligent and precise, allowing for thinner and more robust designs for the upcoming Mix Fold 3 and future foldable devices. He hinted at the Mix Fold 3’s August release, which means it would launch shortly after the Galaxy Z Fold 5, which is already scheduled for July 26.

Despite the intense competition in the foldable smartphone market, with devices like the Pixel Fold, Galaxy Z Fold 5, Moto Razr+, and the upcoming OnePlus Open, it is speculated that Xiaomi’s Mix Fold 3 may have a limited release in China this year.

Rumored specifications of the Mix Fold 3, reported by Gizmochina, suggest it will feature a 6.56-inch outer screen with Full HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The inner foldable screen is expected to measure 8.02 inches with Quad HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Both displays will utilize bright AMOLED panels, and the inner screen will incorporate an in-display selfie camera similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 4.

In terms of performance, the Mix Fold 3 is rumored to be equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, coupled with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. The device is expected to feature Leica-powered cameras, including a primary sensor possibly using the Sony IMX 989 1-inch sensor, along with an ultra-wide lens, telephoto sensor, and periscopic zoom camera. The Mix Fold 3 could also house a 4,800mAh battery with support for 67W wired and 50W wireless charging.

Additionally, tipster Digital Chat Station suggests that alongside the Mix Fold 3, Xiaomi has plans to release the Redmi K60U, Redmi Pad 2, and the Xiaomi Mi Pad 6 Max—an ultra-large screen tablet expected to launch in the third quarter of 2023.

While these specifications and release plans are based on rumors and leaks, they provide insight into what Xiaomi may have in store for its foldable device and other upcoming products. It remains to be seen how Xiaomi will position and launch the Mix Fold 3 in the global market.
