AOC Q2778VQE Review

AOC Q2778VQE Review

AOC Q2778VQE design

As soon as you look at the specification of the AOC Q2778VQE is easy to understand how the company has cut corners and stripped various design elements to keep the price low for buyers. If you are in search of a monitor that looks cool, then the AOC Q2778VQE isn’t for you. The monitor features no fancy aesthetics. The cabinet and the chunky bezels come in glossy black plastic material.

The glossy finish acts as a magnet for dust, scratches, and fingerprints. The back of the monitors is also black plastic but in a matte finish which is better than the glossy finish on the front in our humble opinion.

The I/O ports: DisplayPort 1.2, HDMI, DVI, and VGA are located at the back of the monitor under the bugle. The range of connectivity ports available on the AOC Q2778VQE is one of its strong points. However, the lack of USB ports and built-in speakers is logical since this is, after all, a more inexpensive model of QHD monitors.

The stand is basic but sturdy and stable, which is good enough that this price point. The neck offers only 21 degrees tilt, which is extremely limited, but the user can install a stand or mount to improve the ergonomics.

Display and Performance

AOC Q2778VQE display

Although AOC Q2778VQE is a budget-friendly LED monitor; however, the display colors, contrast, and sharpness of the screen are beyond amazing.

The impressive 27-inch 1440p LED monitor that is equipped with a TN panel with a refresh rate of 60Hz and 1ms response time. Although most gamers prefer at least 100Hz, I guess you cannot complain much about a budget-oriented monitor.

Compared to other TN panel monitors not only from the same budget range or that are priced higher than the AOC Q2778VQE. This monitor offers excellent color reproduction, and we did not notice any motion blur or ghosting during our test. But can AOC Q2778VQE be used as a workstation monitor? Well, no! The colors aren’t always completely accurate.

The viewing angles are quite narrow, which is a bit of a drawback, but you can’t expect highly impressive viewing angles on a budget monitor. The AOC Q2778VQE does not include FreeSync, so you may not get smoothest gaming performance, but you have to keep in mind that features like FreeSync come at a higher price.

If you are looking for a monitor for multiplayer gaming, then you may rethink about buying AOC Q2778VQE. Purchasing a monitor with 1080p 144Hz panel would be a better choice for you than Q2778VQE’s 1440p 60Hz.

Talking about the input lag, this is one of the significant drawbacks of the AOC Q2778VQE. The response rate is calculated at 38ms, which isn’t ideal for competitive gaming. However, the overall performance of this monitor is excellent, so you may not even notice the input lag.

Connectivity And Power Consumption

Connectivity And Power Consumption

AOC Q2778VQE also ticks many boxes when it comes to connectivity. Its wide connectivity adds more value to this affordable gaming monitor. The matte black rear cabinet is well-organized, with all I/O ports placed tidily beneath the bulge. Q2778VQE offers all types of connectivity options that are important for a Quad HD wide display.

Q2778VQE monitor includes a single connector for DisplayPort 1.2, DVI-D, HDMI, VGA, and a headphone jack. All of these ports provide good-quality audio and video results and are sufficient for performing routine tasks. However, AOC Q2778VQE lacks USB ports and built-in speakers.

If you talk about power consumption, then AOC Q2778VQE will not fail to impress you as it comes equipped with Energy Star and EPEAT Silver certification. Therefore, the monitor consumes low power while delivering HD results.

What You Might Not Like About The AOC Q2778VQE

There is a lot to appreciate in this device, but it also has its fair share of disadvantages. The design of the stand is as basic as it gets with no rotation, which might be limiting for some users that want to adjust the angle of the screen according to their needs. You can’t also adjust the height of the screen either. Finally, the ergonomics of the monitor only allows 25 degrees of tilt, which is also pretty restrictive.

Because the AOC Q2778VQE is an affordable monitor for its type, it has some motion blur and ghosting issues, which is a common problem with cheaper gaming monitors. These minor snags can make the screen somewhat harder to love, at least at first, and impact its usefulness for more detailed work. We also noticed that the bright reds are also skewed. There is also the disadvantage of not having FreeSync, which allows more smooth gaming.

Having said that, the AOC Q2778VQE is a decent monitor for its price and provides good value for money. It is especially suitable for people purchasing their first mid-range gaming monitor. Read our conclusion to know if we recommend this monitor and why.
