Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 fans are pleading for the long-lost Gunfight Tournaments mode to be brought back in the most recent release. Diverse time-limited modes have been tested in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, and players are getting quite excited about the possible return of Gunfight Tournaments.

In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019), Gunfight Tournaments made their debut. Later, in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, they made a comeback. This mode modified the usual Gunfight regulations, which pitted two teams of two against one another in a timed competition lasting 40 seconds and put them into a tournament format. Players battled through the preliminary, quarterfinal, semifinal, and final rounds of a four-round bracket, which featured 16 teams, in order to win the title and special prizes. Certain segments of the community found great resonance in the competitive twist it introduced. However, since Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War introduced the mode, it has not been present.

The conversation regarding Gunfight Tournaments possibly returning was started by Redditor KombatKiller, and it quickly became nostalgic as many players of the game recounted their recollections of the mode. Along with demands for new features, other users on the post suggested including every map from the first two Call of Duty: Modern Warfare games. One player, though, had a different viewpoint and suggested that the game’s current technical problems be fixed first. They said, “Let’s bring back the game online first.” This comment was made in reference to the significant technical issues that were plaguing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, but which now seem to have passed.

Gunfight was added to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in Season 1, although there are no options for competitive play. Gunfights are fun for players, but it lacks a competitive advantage, which can discourage people from participating. It might be sufficient to add a rating system even in the absence of tournament brackets.

Sledgehammer Games is releasing new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 playlists, like the most recent “Best of ’09” flashback playlist, in spite of the game’s divided reviews. The inclusion of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) levels in the most recent game demonstrates the developer’s priority of bringing back beloved maps and scenarios. This emphasizes the possibility that Gunfight Tournaments could resume if there is a significant demand from the community.
