Capcom’s Open-World RPG Gets a Strong Start Despite Price Hike

Dragon’s Dogma 2 has gained a lot of steam momentum and is now listed among Valve’s Top Sellers. This early victory corresponds with Capcom’s formal declaration, which validates previous leaks, of the game’s release date of March 22, 2024. The release date was leaked along with the most recent Dragon’s Dogma 2 showcase, which offered new details about the story and gameplay of the open-world role-playing game. The game’s pre-order period opened one day after the November 28 event.

The Steam version of Dragon’s Dogma 2 has quickly risen to the ninth spot on the platform’s Top Sellers list thanks to strong pre-orders. This noteworthy placement puts it below the recently released RTS Last Train Home by Ashborne Games and THQ Nordic and above Apex Legends. It is important to remember that the Steam Top Sellers list includes all of the premium and free-to-play games available on Valve’s service. The total earnings from all sources for a certain set of games over a short period of time determines the rankings.

The open-world RPG’s strong pre-order launch is especially remarkable in light of the fact that Dragon’s Dogma 2 signaled the beginning of Capcom’s PC game price increases. The Deluxe Edition, which offers more early adopter goodies, costs an additional $10 over the Standard Edition, which is now available for $69.99. The $70 price point is very uncommon in the PC gaming market, particularly when contrasted with the going rates for consoles of the present generation.

Shortly after Dragon’s Dogma’s tenth anniversary of release, in June 2022, Capcom announced the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the hit ARPG’s sequel. Among other things, the first game’s enormously rich fantasy lore, expansive open world, engrossing combat, and enormous character diversity won it a lot of praise. Its replayability was further enhanced with an intricate New Game Plus option, which solidified its place as a cult classic.

Based on the information and gameplay videos that Capcom has released thus far, the upcoming role-playing game will retain a lot of the concepts that worked well for its predecessor. Dragon’s Dogma 2, according to game developer Hideaki Itsuno, takes cues from Grand Theft Auto V for creating an immersive open world full of realistic NPCs. Dragon’s Dogma 2 is scheduled to arrive on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S platforms in addition to the PC.
