Zelda Remasters to Cash in on the Original Switch

Throughout its existence, the Nintendo Switch has had tremendous success. The system offers a wealth of memorable gaming experiences with games like Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Splatoon 3, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The Legend of Zelda series stands out, having produced two of the most important and well-liked games.

Although The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was first released simultaneously with the Wii U, it quickly rose to prominence as a key component of the Switch’s popularity. This held true for six years, until The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom took the stage with its release this past year. Though it’s a brief chance, there is still room for further Zelda adventures on the Nintendo Switch as its lifespan draws to a conclusion.

The Nintendo Switch has had a good number of remakes and remasters throughout the years, much like its console siblings. Nintendo has been using these updated versions to fill in the void between significant new releases ever since the Switch’s launch. Nintendo’s first-party catalog has recently seen an influx of remasters and remakes, including titles like Metroid, Pokemon, and Mario.

Though they have consistently appeared on the Nintendo Switch since its release in 2017, it appears that remasters and remakes have taken center stage and now constitute the entirety of the console’s 2024 lineup. There are plenty of other remakes in development such as remasters of Paper Mario: Thousand-Year Door and Luigi’s Mansion 2.

Zelda remakes and remasters have already been brought to the Nintendo Switch, but there’s still room for more, with some projects circulating in the rumor mill for years. Remasters of Zelda: The Wind Waker and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess are among the most often rumored projects, allegedly waiting for their moment to shine. Both would be ideal for making the most of the last few months of the Switch’s existence. Majora’s Mask and Ocarina of Time remake on the Nintendo 3DS would also be a perfect fit for the lineup.

Simple ports or remasters of these Zelda titles might not cause a huge stir in the gaming community, but their importance should not be undervalued. These Zelda remasters provide Nintendo with an easy way to bring in extra cash before the release of the Switch 2. Additionally, they provide a convenient means for enthusiasts to re-experience beloved classics—a chore that is getting harder and harder as the cost of retro consoles rises.
