Recent speculation suggests that Call of Duty 2025 is expected to resemble Modern Warfare 3 with respect to Call of Duty 2024, including the inclusion of multiplayer levels from Black Ops 2 that have been remastered. However, the Call of Duty game in 2023 is employing a novel strategy. It will act as a direct sequel to its predecessor for the first time in the series, carrying on the plot from the Modern Warfare 2 campaign.

In many ways, Modern Warfare 3 is expected to set itself apart from previous Call of Duty games. There won’t be a brand-new multiplayer experience; instead, Modern Warfare 2’s style, weapons, and unlockables will be carried over. Players will be able to fight on remastered versions of the game’s 2009 release maps. This strategy appears to be a reaction to Call of Duty’s previous development issues, which delayed the franchise’s release timetable and forced Treyarch to rush out Black Ops Cold War in place of the 2020 Call of Duty game originally intended by Sledgehammer. It’s possible that Modern Warfare 3 could bring in a new era for the Call of Duty series. The 2025 Call of Duty installment will serve a similar purpose for Treyarch’s 2024 release, according to a leak by el_bobberto on Twitter. But it’s rumored to use maps from Black Ops 2 rather than from Modern Warfare 2. Fans must exercise caution while using this information because the leaker noted that it could alter over the course of the next two years.

It makes sense for Activision to think about using this tactic in future games if Modern Warfare 3 is a hit. With 20 titles in the Call of Duty series’ portfolio upon the launch of Modern Warfare 3 later this year, there is a large selection of vintage CoD games to choose from.

Some fans might be wondering why Black Ops 2 was chosen over the first Black Ops. It may feel strange to move on to Black Ops 2 when the first Black Ops had so many cherished multiplayer maps. However, it’s worth noting that Black Ops 2 included the popular map Nuketown 2025, which could explain the choice. 

Unfortunately, more information about the 2025 Call of Duty game won’t be released for at least two years because Activision usually releases it in the spring or summer of the release year.
